“The wedding” by Laila Muraywid

“The Wedding” is a sculpture made by the Syrian Laila Muraywid. Her sculptures evoke the woman condition because after all, Arab Spring is for women too. We find in this artwork two arms, the hands are desperately holding on something while in the centre, the junction shows a violent slot like as the flesh was exploded by bombings, a slot separating the arms. Between love and war, this sculpture is at the same time fascinating and terrifying.

“It’s always the woman’s body which is where the fight is happening. In the Arab world, but also somewhere else.” L.Muraywid
